2023 Tour de France and go on to win the event.
What to know about Yates
The Bora–Hansgrohe cyclist is best known for making history when he won his first Grand Tour, the Giro d'Italia in 2022.
Hindley became the first Australian to win the Giro and just the second Australian to win a grand tour, following Cadel Evans who won the Tour de France.
He won an individual stage (18) at the 2020 Giro d'Italia and went on to finish second behind the champion Tao Geoghegan Hart of Ineos Grenadiers.
Why Hindley is among the favourites
The Perth-born star won stage five of the 2023 Tour de France by 32 seconds as he set a strong warning to his rivals.
His lead at the finish line put him in first place in the General Classification earning him the Yellow Jersey for the start of stage six.
Hindley is currently placed third on the General classification (Yellow Jersey) standings and he has what it takes to win the Tour de France.

“It was a tough day and a really hard final climb, super steep and unforgiving," Hindley said after finishing 19th in stage nine of the 2023 Tour de France.
"The temperature also played its role and I suffered a lot on the Puy de Dome. I didn’t have the best legs today and felt I need to ride my own race.
"I didn’t hang on to the guys as long as I could but let them go and paced myself to the finish. That worked out well and I am quite happy with the outcome of the day."
